Wondering what to do in Avon this Labor Day? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.
Here are five adventures for you and your family this Labor Day weekend Avon – Unwind, recharge and soak in the last days of summer. Let’s explore!!
- Relax by Eagle River. Relaxation comes in many different forms. Whether you want to fish, kayak, raft, walk, photograph nature or just sit peacefully, finding a spot along the Eagle Valley Trail is a great first step. The trail parallels the Eagle River for miles from Dowd Junction through Avon. Observe nature on the shores of the flowing Eagle River, which has several expansive picnic spots, including in front of the Westin Riverfront hotel. Parking is available on West Benchmark Road or 1 Lake Street for easy river access.
- Head to the Beach. If you are just looking to relax, enjoy the weather and take in the last few days of summer with friends and family, then head to Nottingham Lake and Beach! Grab a bite at one of Avon’s food trucks or local restaurants to enjoy a delicious beach day picnic – or bring your own grillables and use Nottingham Park’s first-come, first-served charcoal grills. Looking for activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family? Stand Up Paddle Colorado has paddleboard and pedal boat rentals available on the north shore of Nottingham Lake, including the famous SUP-Squatch which can fit more people than your average minivan. If your ideal beach day doesn’t involve getting wet, just kick back on a beach chair and finish up your summer reading list.
- Participate in Paddle Battles. On Sunday September 1, join Avon’s 4th annual Paddle Battles. Bring your ultra-competitive spirit, ego, and game plan to Nottingham Lake for family-friendly races beginning at noon. Compete as an individual or gather your squad for the SUP-Squatch Team race and test your balance (and patience) by paddling a single board with a boatload of people on board. Registration is open until races begin! May the best paddler win!
- Explore the Eagle Valley Trail. The Eagle Valley Trail is 52+ miles of paved paradise that mirrors almost every curve of the Eagle River and eventually the Colorado River. Avon is the epicenter of the trail – which stretches from Vail through Glenwood Canyon. Whether you’re looking to achieve your weekly steps or just want to listen to the roar of the river rather than the hum of traffic, the Eagle Valley Trail is a great way to travel. SHIFT electric bikes are available for hourly rentals from Vail to Edwards, allowing guests to be close to nature yet accessible to metropolitan areas throughout Eagle County.
- SunsetLIVE! on the Terrace. With summer 2024 coming to a close, the last SunsetLIVE! of the year is Sunday, September 1 featuring the trio ‘Three for All.’ SunsetLIVE! is a uniquely Avon experience designed to ward off the Sunday Scaries and add a relaxing twist to your weekend wind-down. Grab your friends and family, favorite beverages (adult or otherwise), and bring along a comfortable lawn chair and picnic basket. Get ready to soak in the vibes of a quintessential Rocky Mountain sunset over Nottingham Lake surrounded by great people, live music and pristine mountain surroundings – making memories that will last a lifetime!
