Summer’s End at Nottingham Park over Labor Day Weekend
A full weekend of uniquely Avon family activities, live music and more at the inaugural Summer’s End in Avon!
We invite you to enjoy a weekend-long celebration designed to close out our summer season with a wide variety of activities appealing to the entire community at Summer’s End over Labor Day weekend. We begin Summer’s End with Lakeside Cinema on Friday evening at dusk followed by the Avon Art Festival opening on Saturday morning and lasting through the weekend. Saturday offers a full day of relaxation or activity at Nottingham Lake including sand volleyball, SUP and paddleboat rentals, playing at the swim beach or lounging under a tree and enjoying a picnic.
Sunday kicks into high gear with several super-fun activities to include three NEW SUP races on Nottingham Lake and in partnership with SUP CO. “We have big cash prizes up for grabs at the inaugural Paddle Battle Individual SUP Race as well as SUP-Squatch Team Race,” said Cultural, Arts & Special Events Manager for Avon, Danita Dempsey. “We are also bringing back the Cardboard Regatta which is a local favorite,” continues Ms. Dempsey. Registration is required for all races. Sunday winds down with a great evening of live music at SunsetLIVE!
We wrap up Summer’s End with a free performance by legendary trailblazing band, Los Lobos on Monday, September 6th”, said Danita Dempsey, Culture, Arts & Special Events Manager for the Town of Avon.
For all the trailblazing musical acts who’ve emerged from Los Angeles, very few embody the city’s wildly eclectic spirit more wholeheartedly than Los Lobos. Over the last five decades, the East L.A.-bred band has made an indelible mark on music history by exploring an enormous diversity of genres—rock-and-roll and R&B, surf music and soul, mariachi and música norteña, punk rock and country—and building a boldly unpredictable sound all their own. On their new album Native Sons, the multi-Grammy Award-winners map their musical DNA by covering a kaleidoscopic selection of songs from their homeland, ultimately creating a crucial snapshot of L.A.’s musical heritage.
