Thanksgiving is an exciting time to visit Avon. Beaver Creek Mountain is scheduled to open on Wednesday, November 22 for the 2023-2024 season, and lots of opening day festivities will define Thanksgiving week in Avon.
Avon Transit transitions to the winter schedule on Beaver Creek opening day, including the Skier Express Shuttle, which travels between Avon Station and Beaver Creek Village every 30 minutes.
On Thanksgiving Day, Avon is proud to host a Turkey Trot in Nottingham Park beginning at 9:30 AM. This event has long been a holiday tradition in the Vail Valley. In years past, the event has been organized by non-profit organization YouthPower365 but this year Avon is taking the reins and transitioning the event from Eagle-Vail to Avon.
“We are happy to support our community partners by stepping in to host this valued community event this year,” said Recreation Director Michael Labagh.
Avon’s “Turkey Trot” race will be held on Thursday, November 23 and the races will start at 9:30 a.m., with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. The 2k race course will include a scenic run around Nottingham Lake, and the 5k race course will run through the park and along the Eagle Valley Trail within the Town of Avon. A percentage of the proceeds benefit YouthPower365.
Registration for the race is now open with options to register as an individual for either race or as a family for the 2k race. Light refreshments, awards and raffle prizes will be available after the race. Race day costumes and Thanksgiving holiday flair are welcome and encouraged!
