Thanksgiving is an exciting time to visit Avon. Beaver Creek Mountain is scheduled to open on Wednesday, November 25 for the season, and lots of opening day festivities will define Thanksgiving week in Avon. Beaver Creek’s Annual Cookie Competition, held Opening Day, celebrates their world-famous chocolate chip cookie tradition! Five finalists will have their cookies available for tasting and guests will vote on their favorite. The final judging wave begins at 4:00 PM, and the winners will be announced at 5:00 PM.
Avon Transit transitions to the winter schedule on Beaver Creek opening day, including the Skier Express Shuttle, which travels between Avon Station and Beaver Creek Village every 30 minutes.
On Thanksgiving Day, Avon is proud to host a Turkey Trot in Nottingham Park beginning at 9:30 AM, with check-in beginning at 8:00 AM. This event has long been a holiday tradition in the Vail Valley, and the Town of Avon is excited to host this fun and healthy community event as a kickoff to Thanksgiving! Whether you walk, jog or trot the 3K, you’ll enjoy a scenic course around Nottingham Lake and the Eagle River Trail followed by light refreshments. Costumes are highly encouraged, so break out your most creative holiday attire and join the fun.
The scenic racecourse will run through the Nottingham Park and along the Eagle Valley Trail and Riverfront Lane in Avon. A portion of the proceeds benefit YouthPower 365.
The pre-registration fee is $20 per person. Children who are 5-years old and under race for free! Prices will increase by $5 for day of registration. Participants can pre-register at AvonRec.org through the SmartRec software online registration portal.
Light refreshments and prizes will be available after the race. Race day costumes and Thanksgiving holiday flair are welcome and encouraged!
