The month of October may be winding down, but Halloween festivities are just getting started in Harry A. Nottingham Park in Avon! Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 30th, the Pumpkin 2k Fun Run is a family-friendly event to kick off your holiday weekend.
The event starts with a costume contest, followed by a 2-kilometer Fun Run around Nottingham Lake. Wearing your costume during the run is encouraged! Afterwards, participants will enjoy refreshments while carving pumpkins in the soccer field. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes, so make sure to let your creative side shine!
Following the Pumpkin 2k Fun Run & Costume Contest, keep your costume handy and grab your friends! It’s time to get ‘freezin for a reason’ for Special Olympics of Colorado! At 1:00 p.m., join in the Avon “Spooktacular” Polar Plunge, joining communities nationwide in supporting the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, for a quick, fun, chilly dip to raise funds and awareness for the mission and programs of Special Olympics. The Special Olympics provides impactful sports and leadership opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities.
Teams from across Colorado will take the plunge into Nottingham Lake, which will be an estimated 40°F. Each team will be in the lake for less than three minutes and can warm up with hot beverages and soup after they plunge. In past years, officers from the Avon Police Department participated alongside members of the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Troopers, and members of Vail Public Safety and Vail Police Department. Register for the Polar Plunge at https://give.classy.org/2021AvonPlunge.
Don’t fret the cold! Plunging with friends makes it SO much fun. Strut or run into the waters wearing your finest costumes and be automatically entered into the costume contest.
